Which macOS and iOS versions are supported / required?
The latest version of Wokabulary always supports at least the current and previous versions of macOS and iOS.
These are the system versions that Apple usually provides support and updates for.
Typically, this covers devices that are up to seven years old.
We always try to make use of the latest features of macOS and iOS, like interactive widgets for quizzes, Markdown support, or Apple Intelligence. Targeting recent systems also allows us to utilize the latest programming APIs to speed up development and integrate well in the Apple ecosystem.
Keeping compatibility with older systems would significantly slow down development time because the app needs to be tested on more systems and often special workaround solutions need to be created. Also, Apple does not provide any development support for outdated system versions. As a small team with limited resources, this means we would have to compromise on improving features for current and future systems.
Tip
Even when the latest version of Wokabulary no longer supports your operating system, you can, of course, keep using the last compatible version.Example
Say, you are still using an iPhone 8 on iOS 16. While you cannot run Wokabulary 7 on that device, you can keep using Wokabulary 6. Once you get a new phone, you will automatically receive the update to the latest version. You can even use different Wokabulary versions on different devices together.
