🌧️️ Initial syncing takes too long or never finishes
Note
When you first launch Wokabulary on a new device, all your existing words and progress are synced from iCloud. For large vocabularies, this can take several minutes to complete. But once the initial sync is complete, any new changes will usually sync within seconds (as they will be much smaller).
🏁 Initial Syncing
iCloud syncing is handled entirely by macOS and iOS on a System level. The System can decide to slow down or pause iCloud syncing when it feels it needs to save resources.
If you have issues with syncing, please check the following:
- 🪫 Syncing might be paused in low power / energy saving mode. Make sure that your device is not in energy-saving mode.
- 🔥 On iPhones or iPads, the system might pause syncing when the device is getting too hot. Make sure to let your device cool down
- 🐦🔥 Sometimes Wokabulary is not notified correctly about the sync progress. If you see no progress for a longer time, try restarting Wokabulary
- 🗑️ In case you have deleted all vocabularies, sometimes other devices don’t properly recognize this and still try to load iCloud data. After about 2 minutes, the loading screen will show an option to create a new empty vocabulary.
- ☕️ Often it really just takes a bit longer. Just get a coffee and come back in a few minutes.
⌚️ Watch Syncing
Initial syncing on the Apple Watch can take particularly long. That is because watchOS tries to save energy whenever possible. It can help to keep the Wokabulary app active. We have a dedicated article on ⌚️ Languages missing / not syncing to Apple Watch
✏️ Syncing Changes
If new words or changes you make are not synced to other devices correctly, please have a look at our article 🌩️ Changes are not synced to other devices via iCloud
Tip
Note that syncing continues in the background even after the loading screen disappears. If you don't immedately see all your words or languages, don’t worry, they will appear while syncing completes.
